12.January 2015. PRESIDENTAL ELECTIONS IN CROATIA Croatia has a wooman for president. 
Kolinda Grabar Kitarovic (46-year-old) is a new president Republic of Croatia. With 99.51% of ballots counted, Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, a former foreign minister and ambassador to the U.S., was ahead, with 50.43% of the vote against incumbent Ivo Josipovic (57-year-old) with 49.57%, the electoral commission said Sunday. Final results are scheduled to be released Monday after all votes by Croats living abroad have been counted. But those votes are unlikely to change the solid lead held by Ms. Grabar-Kitarovic. ELECTION RESULTS (The Electoral Commision ) Since becoming independent after the breakup of Yugoslavia in 1991. Croatia had three presidents all of them was male, now 4th president is female. “It’s over, the lady won!” said Mr. Josipovic after congratulating Ms. Grabar-Kitarovic. Ms. Kitarovic called for a unity all of Croats in the country, in the Diaspora and in Bosnia and Herzegovina. “I won’t be dividing our people and on the contrary I’ll seek to get together in order to resolve all problems that we have right now…from bad economy to social issues of our people,” said Kolinda."I will not let anyone tell me that Croatia will not be prosperous and wealthy," she told jubilant supporters in the capital Zagreb last night, Ms. Grabar-Kitarovic, a seasoned Croatian diplomat, served as Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization from 2011 to 2014 and Croatia’s ambassador to Washington from 2005 to 2008. Prime Minister Zoran Milanovic apologised for being a "burden" to the outgoing president.His government may also pay the price in elections later this year Ms. Grabar-Kitarovic, a seasoned Croatian diplomat, served as Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy at the North Atlantic Treaty Organization from 2011 to 2014 and Croatia’s ambassador to Washington from 2005 to 2008. She is a member of the bigest opposition party in Croatia , Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ). The victory by Ms. Grabar-Kitarovic, backed by the opposition Croatian Democratic Union party, is likely to bolster the party’s position ahead of parliamentary elections due in late 2015.
