The Crodiaspora and American Croatian Congress initiated project"Kravata"

kravata project

Project “KRAVATA” (eng. Necktie) was initiated by the Crodiaspora and American Croatian Congress last year to highlight influential Croats from the Croatian diaspora through showcasing their contributions they have made to their communities, Croatia and the world. “Kravata” team members are: Nada Pritišanac Matulich (Project Manager and Coordinator), Ana Katalinic (Key account Manager), Branka Bezic Filipovic (Key Account Manager, South America) and Mate Pavkovic (Public Relations Manager).

Starting on international necktie day – October 18, 2021, with the help of their partners and contacts, they started to collect neckties, scarfs, and biographies of influential Croatians from around the world. The idea is to donate one of their neckties or scarfs that they do not use anymore and send a short biography with a message about themselves they want to leave to the next generation, and their signature. Their neckties and scarfs will be curated in a travelling exhibition.

The first exhibit will be at Rochester Institute of Technology Croatia Dubrovnik Campus from June 8 – 11, 2023, and will be a symbolic exhibit as it will namely showcase Dubrovnik’s diplomatic past. The exhibit will then travel to Aspira University College Split on June 15, 2023 before heading to the Zagreb School of Economics and Management on July 7, 2023 in conjunction with the 7th Annual ACAP Conference. As many emigrants passed through Zagreb before leaving in the past century, their exhibit will have an exhibit in Zagreb before continuing its world tour.

From Zagreb, the exhibit will travel to other Universities and institutions across the world. The purpose of this exhibit is to showcase the Necktie as a symbol of Croatian culture as well as the contributions of Croats to their respective communities around the world and to their homeland Croatia.

At the end of the project, organizers intend to create a necktie museum in Zagreb where tourists, as well as Croats and their children, will have the opportunity to learn about influential and successful Croats from the Croatian diaspora who have contributed to creating a positive image of Croatia and the Croatian people abroad. If you would like to donate or contribute to project “Kravata”, reach out to organizers at kravata@crodiaspora.com or crowcusa@gmail.com

The mayor of Dubrovnik supports Croatian emigrants and project “Kravata”

The Mayor of the City of Dubrovnik, Mato Frankoviæ, recently hosted a member of the American Croatian Congress, Sreæko Mavrek, with whom he discussed the association’s projects and plans for the organization of two important events that will be held at the Rochester Institute of Technology in Dubrovnik from June 8 to 11 next year.

CroDiaspora and the American Croatian Congress designed and launched the “Kravata” (Necktie) project to present the necktie as a symbol of Croatian culture, but also to highlight and promote the influence of Croatian emigrants through the presentation of their contribution to emigrant communities, Croatia and the world.

The collection of ties, scarves, and CVs with the signatures of those who wore them is underway. All exhibits will be presented at the project’s traveling exhibitions at universities around the world and at the UN and EU institutions.

In conjunction with this important exhibition, the Croatian emigrant poetry association New York (HIL NY) and the American Croatian Congress will organize the 22nd meeting of the Croatian emigrant lyrics, so during these two events, many Croatian emigrants and dignitaries will visit Dubrovnik.

Mayor Frankoviæ fully supports the organization of these two meetings, and he agreed to deliver his address to the participants. He also expressed his special satisfaction that the 1st exhibition of the “Kravata” project will take place in Dubrovnik and noted that the contribution of Croatian emigrants and their descendants to the promotion and reputation of Croatia in the world is greatly appreciated.

Srecko Mavrek, who is also a correspondent for several portals and one of the hosts of Croatian Radio New York, thanked the mayor for his welcome and cooperation, and announced his live appearance in one of the next radio shows.
